Performed by Tute Chigamba, from the album Yangu Ndega
“Kuzanga” (Living freely) is a song about jealousy. Really, it is called “Nhema” (Rhinoceros); that is its true name. Vakuzanga is the title of a senior wife. She is a grown woman, with her family. She is mature. Now, her husband marries a second wife. The junior wife’s title is Chandide. If their husband is traveling, the junior wife is the one who accompanies him. Yes, she is Chandide, “the beloved one.” So the senior wife, Vakuzanga, stays behind, relaxing freely at home. But when Vakuzanga is angered, she will fight like a rhinoceros. Yes, the word “nhema” means a black rhinoceros.
